There are many rewarding opportunities with GINLC – whether it’s helping to steward our properties around the Island, supporting our many educational events, or performing administrative roles in our membership, marketing, graphic design, or finance groups.
If you have a specific skill we would love to hear from you. Whether you have one hour a week or one hour per month, your time and talent help to drive the wheels of the Conservancy and we are grateful for all our volunteers.

Do you possess the skills and interests needed to make the world a better place through engaging in volunteer activities such as:

Enhancing and maintaining our preserves and gardens.

Educational Events

Island Nights (July 17 and August 21)
Help GINLC shine at one of our most visible and fun community events. Volunteers are needed for setup, staffing, greeting the public, and tear‑down at our table in front of the Resource Center. No experience needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to help. Sign Up Here

Grosse Ile 250th Anniversary Celebration (July 25, 2026)
GINLC will host a table at Centennial Farm during this community celebration. We need volunteers to assist with setup, staffing, greeting visitors, and tear‑down. A great way to represent GINLC at a major island event. Sign Up Here

Stewardship
Love the outdoors and want to make a real impact? Join our hands‑on stewardship efforts to care for and protect GINLC preserves and garden . Tasks may include planting trees, mowing, removing invasive species, maintaining trails and kiosks, clearing debris, installing signs, and inspecting properties (training provided). Additionally a stewardship crew meets many Monday mornings, with additional special events throughout the year. Contact US if interested.

Gardening
We will be hosting a work event in our Resource Center Native Garden at 8801 Macomb St July 18, 2026, 10 am-noon. You can Pre-Register here

Volunteer Eligibility

Adults: GINLC welcomes adult volunteers to participate in its activities.
-
High School-Aged Minors: High school-aged Minors may volunteer with written permission from a parent or guardian (Completed Volunteer Liability Form).

Younger Children: Children younger than high school age may participate only if accompanied by a responsible adult who actively supervises them during the activity.

All volunteers must sign a liability waiver form before participating in any activities. Waivers must be completed at least once per calendar year, at a minimum. For minors, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver on
their behalf.
